NEW TERM
The new term is well and truly underway and all young people and colleagues are working hard to ensure excellent learning and teaching is taking place. Our new S1 are settling in well and are very confident in finding their way round school. We continue to analyse our SQA results. Attainment meetings will be held over the next few weeks with Heads of Department.
ROOFING WORKS
We are in the middle of major roofing works – I thank everyone for their patience during this time. The school and Morrison Construction are working closely together to ensure as little disruption to learning and teaching as possible.
VALUES AND MOTTO
We have officially decided on our values; these are Respect, Responsibility, Dedication, Health and Achievement. The school motto will remain ‘Happy, Healthy and High Achieving’. Please look out for these being displayed throughout the school in the near future.
ATHLETICS NEWS
Kyle Wilkinson (S3) continues to impress on the athletics field with a ranking of first for the Under 15s Triple Jump with 11.52m. This is the first time that Kyle has attempted competition at this event.
He has a Trophy Meet at Pitreavie this weekend and the League Final next weekend [10 September]; at both of these he could produce another Long Jump and Triple Jump plus 100 & 200m improvements.
CELEBRATING YOU – WITH THE RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOLS GROUP
We want to celebrate Success at Speyside High School. We need you to tell us where our pupils have done well.
Pupils:If you or your friends have an achievement that you are proud of (in or out of school) - let us know! Pop a note in the ‘Name In Lights’ box at Reception and we will shout about it!
Teachers:If you have pupils who you think deserve that wee bit more recognition for an achievement we want to know about it! Please pop a note in the box at Reception, or send Mrs McLauchlan an email, and we will light up their name! Remember, we want to celebrate staff achievements too. Everyone enjoys 5 minutes of fame – now it’s your turn!
Look out for updates on Facebook and Twitter.
INVIGILATORS
Speyside High is always on the look out for anyone who would like to become an invigilator to officiate in both our prelim exams in January as well as the SQA exams in May. If this is something you would like to get involved with, please contact Mr Picksley at school.
OCEAN SPIRIT
This week eleven of our S6 pupils are lucky enough to be taking part on a voyage with the Gordonstoun yacht, Ocean Spirit. The boat is going from Inverness to Plockton, via the Caledonian Canal. We are very grateful to Gordonstoun and their staff for making this possible, giving our pupils a chance to build on their team working, confidence, communication and resilience to support them both this year and beyond school.
FOOTBALL
After two rounds of very competitive trials, Speyside High School now has a Junior and a Senior football team. Thanks to everyone who took part and congratulations to the players who made the team. Thanks to Neil Smart and Chris Moule for taking on the Junior team.
